REDWING 8111 Iron Ranger Amber Harness Iron Ranger is the name of the iron ore mining area in the northern part of Minnesota, USA, where Red Wing is located. Many of the miners who once worked here wore "capped toe" boots with a layer of leather added to the toes to protect the toes, hence the name Iron Ranger boots. This "capped toe" design was widely used in work boots in the early 20th century, and if you look at Red Wing's catalog (from 1910) shortly after its founding, 33 of the 37 types of work boots listed had a capped toe design. As time passed and steel toes, the current standard for safety shoes, became popular, the number of capped toe boots decreased, but some steel toe boots retained the capped toe design, which was used to protect and strengthen the toes at the time, until the 1990s. The Iron Ranger is a refined version of the capped toe design that has been passed down to this day. last(
Wood last) is the No. 8 last widely used in Red Wing's round toe boots. They have a relaxed design typical of work boots, and are well-regarded for their ease of wear. The sole uses Vibram #430 mini-lug sole with excellent grip.
