This tatami mat is made from 100% pesticide-reduced igusa (rush grass) grown in Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture. Its features include: 1. Superior durability and resilience compared to regular igusa, and its distinctive green color lasts longer. 2. Even after fading from sun exposure, it retains a beautiful amber color. 3. It has the ability to absorb nitrogen dioxide, a source of air pollution, and also effectively regulates room humidity.
Refresh your tatami room simply by laying this tatami mat. Use it to refresh sun-damaged tatami or as a cover to protect new tatami mats from stains.
This tatami mat is made from domestically grown igusa (rush grass) grown in Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture, a major igusa producing region, and is 130cm or longer [JAS Class 1 (the highest class of tatami mat)], the standard length for tatami mats. Carefully selected, high-quality, thick, long igusa grass is woven at high density, resulting in a durable, long, and comfortable texture. Approximately 88cm of the 130cm length is used. This premium product uses long igusa grass with minimal white areas around the edges. (The white parts are not sun-tanned; they are the color of the base and tip of the rush.) The longer the rush, the more luxurious it is. The tips of rush are reddish-brown, the base is white, and the middle is blue (green). The more of the high-quality blue part in the middle is used, the stronger and more beautiful the finish will be. Furthermore, rush will sun-tan as it is used, and the more of the blue part in the middle is used, the more evenly the entire rush will tan and the more flavor it will have.
This product is finished with the same weaving method as tatami mats. Compared to double-weave, it is more durable because more rush is woven in. Its smooth surface makes it less likely to collect dust. We recommend the itohiki weave for those who want long-term use or durability.
This product uses domestic rush (from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture). Each strand of domestic rush is thick, with a thick outer skin and fine fibers, making it resilient and durable. Igusa grass is known for its air-purifying properties, humidity-regulating properties, and stain resistance.
Using proprietary technology, the manufacturer applies "hiba essence," extracted from Aomori hiba trees, to the fabric surface. This essence contains hinokitiol, a naturally occurring substance with extremely high antibacterial properties. (Compared to untreated products, it has more antibacterial and deodorizing properties.)
Economical, as both sides can be used.
Please note that due to the natural materials and the fact that each piece is handcrafted by artisans, there may be variations in shape and slight differences from the listed size.
